Children's Continence Service
The paediatric continence promotion nurse specialist provides a quality service to children and young people who have problems with their bladder or bowel.
The aim is to promote continence at all times. The age range is currently 0-16 years (19 years if they are still in special school).
This service is accessible to the population of St Helens.
Referral to this service is open, meaning anyone can refer as long as parents agree. Some referrals are triaged to health visitors or school nurses in the first instance.
Hours of business are presently 9 till 5pm with some clinics open until 6pm.
Several clinics are now running throughout St Helens for easier access.
The nurse specialist is also able to liaise with schools, early year's centres, hospital, Learning Disability Services and Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in order to deliver a plan of care that reflects the whole child's needs.
Some of this work includes: -
- Nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting)
- Day-time wetting
- Constipation and/or overflow
- Potty or toilet training
- Assessment for products
